Blog Assignment #6: Google Drive

For this assignment, I used Google Drive Presentation for the very first time and I was shocked at how easy it is to use. I do have to add that I believe Google Drive and Microsoft PowerPoint are similar, so the transition from one to the other is not difficult. I have used Microsoft PowerPoint since Elementary School and am very familiar with everything the program offers, but I still have to spend much more time fully inspecting Google Drive to decide if it offers all the great presentation making tools as Microsoft does. My favorite part about Google Drive was the ability to do a Google search when inserting an image/ video into the PowerPoint to make things easier. I really enjoyed making my presentation of Who I Am and hope to use Google Drive for future projects!

What I Learned About Twitter

Twitter, among many other social networks used by millions of people everyday, allows individuals to do what social networks do best, connect people from all around the world. The concept of Twitter to many is confusing, specially if you are learning about the purpose of it for the first time. To briefly summarize what Twitter is, it's basically a way to keep in touch with your followers on a more detailed manner. Each tweet consists of a maximum of 140 characters and can read and state just about anything. The most frequent use for twitter is for big name celebrities and well known individuals to stay in touch with thousands and even millions of people simultaneously and at any given time of day. I have used twitter for quite a few years now and I really do enjoy it. Not only can I keep in touch with people I grew up with, I can also keep track of the celebrities I like, etc. I also love following inspirational quotes twitter accounts, places to travel around the world accounts, and things of that manner. I also follow news networks, and even some companies who often offer contests and special offers through twitter. Another important factor that makes up twitter is something known as hashtag. A hashtag is used to create a link to access every twitter account and every person who is talking (tweeting) about a specific subject. For example, I can tweet, "Currently writing about twitter #blogging". To create a hashtag all one has to do is type the number sign (#) and without adding a space writing a word, a phrase, or even a sentence. Twitter also allows everyone to share pictures and videos. Overall, it is a great social network to keep in touch with people you know, or even people you may have never met!

Note Taking Apps

For this week's blog, I have chosen to review note taking apps. I have had an iPad for about a year now and have been using the app Bamboo Paper for only a few weeks. I have tried other note taking apps, but I am not the biggest fan of typing, so finding Bamboo Paper was a dream come true. My favorite feature included within the app is the option to write the notes with a stylus, just like you would with a pen on paper, and the app automatically organizes the notes. Not only can you type, but you can draw, and the app offers many different types of note taking options. Although the app could use quite a bit of work, it is still by far my favorite.

Aside from using a high tech app, I also really just enjoy going with the classic app included with most if not all electronic devices, which is notes. I have all apple devices and having iCloud wired with all of my devices allows my notes to appear in each device after being typed on just my iPad for example. The app is really easy to use, and helps me keep track of everything I need, on which ever device I have at hand.

Overall, note taking apps are great, but I am old fashioned and enjoy hand writing far more than anything technology will ever have to offer. No matter how much time I spend trying to learn to use cell phones, computer, tablets, etc. I still struggle to understand them completely, so it is always more enjoyable to stick to the technique I have been taught to use my whole life and that is to write with a pen and paper.

Blog Assignment #2: Gadgets and Linking vs Embedding

Hello, we are now in Week 3 of CIS 265 and I have learned a lot of useful new things. First of all, the one lesson that has proved to be most useful is identifying websites that can potentially be harmful to one's computer. Also, detecting which e-mails/ files are safe to open to avoid unknowingly installing a virus on my computer. I have dealt with having a hard drive on a PC that has crashed due to virus/bugs and it is not only very expensive to fix, but very time consuming. I have also learned how a computer runs internally, how the internet works, and how to create a blog! I have really enjoyed being able to understand computers, something most of us use everyday. It is amazing how much goes on behind the scenes that allows me to do things with technology that I use everyday!

Because YouTube a worldwide website that most everyone has access to, finding and narrowing it to one favorite video is almost impossible. I have narrowed it down to two basic topics, bloopers and the TV show Friends as found in the video below. I have grown up watching Friends and have seen every single episode at least 10 times. The show is hilarious in itself and never fails to cheer me up when I am down. What a lot of people don't really know though, is that the bloopers are much more entertaining than the actual TV Show. At any moment I need time to take a breather and just find a source of laughter, Friends bloopers is my go to thing! I recommend everyone to watch it, even if you have never seen the show or aren't a big fan of it! I really enjoy watching video that take me behind the scenes of movies/TV shows and learning how they are put together. Although, finding bloopers is the biggest reward through it all.

Blog Assignment #1: Introduction

One of my favorite personal drawings.
Hello! My name is Isabel. This is my second
year at CBU and my major is Psychology and I am planning on receiving a minor in Criminal Justice. I have loved attending this school so far and look forward to continuing my education until I can graduate with my Bachelors degree. After, I would like to attend graduate school to get my doctorate in Forensic/Behavioral Psychology. My whole life I have been passionate about helping people and learning about human behavior, our gestures and everything that makes us tick. Behavioral Psychology focuses the part of Psychology that we can physically see and study. I want to research just how influential our environment as children is to the kind of people we become as we grow older. The reason I have also chosen Forensics is because I want to be able to help understand and help those who have taken a wrong path and that wish to better themselves. I absolutely can't wait to help people, it is a great  feeling to know someone is better thanks to you!

On my free time, something that seems to be scarce now a days due to work and school,  I enjoy embarking on a lot of different hobbies. A lot of my hobbies are results of my thrive to have adventure. I love traveling and exploring and the more often I get to do that, the better! I was born in Colombia, South America. Although I came to the US at a very young age, my parents have raised me with the culture of our home land. I have visited several times over the summer and travel all around the country. Nature is beautiful and wonderfully strange. Colombia Official Travel Guide is a great website to learn more about Colombia and the beautiful sights and travel spots that I have visited.  Another hobbie I really love is drawing. I am self taught artist and have a lot to learn. I tend to draw more often when I am stressed and need a sort of escape from the real world. I am currently working on drawing portraits (such as the one in the picture above) in black and white and would eventually love to start drawing in color.
